Mary the Mother of Jesus

Be it understood that our intention is not to offend or lead anyone away from the Lord or the truth as it is in the Bible. Our prayer is that those reading this will see what the desire of our dear Lord is for them. That they will be lead to understand that He alone can save them. In the same way that one would try to save a drowning man in a swift river we wish to save those who are drowning in a flood of deception that is coming on this world. It was prophecied by Jesus himself that there would be a great deception brought into the world that would decieve if possible even the very elect. We pray that the readers of this article are the elect of God.

Many people have come to believe that Mary is someone very special to the gospel. While it is true that Mary was a godly woman and was highly favored of God to raise our dear Saviour the ideas that are going around have no scriptural foundation. I am well aware that some people have even seen mystical beings that look like someone that they honestly believe to be Mary and I do not doubt that they saw something very real I fear for these dear people for from the Bible we can find that what they saw was not Mary at all but rather a very sinister force at work in this world. Let us take a look at what the Bible can tell us about this very important subject.

We will try to go through the various ideas circulating about who Mary was and what her background was and compare these ideas with what the Bible says.

First let us look at her being a virgin. Some claim that she was a virgin before and after the birth of Christ. Here are some texts for our consideration:

While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! Matthew 12:46-49

There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him. And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! Mark 3:31-34

Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press. And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee. And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it. Luke 8:19-21

Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? Matthew 13:55-56

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. Mark 6:3

After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days. John 2:12

His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest. John 7:3

And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus. Matthew 1:25

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:7

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. Acts 1:14

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Matthew 1:18

Now tell me---if Mary only gave birth to Jesus and no one else why was he called her firstborn? Why not call him her only child? When God the Father speaks of him he calls him, "My only begotten son". And why are his brothers and sisters mentioned separate from his disciples?

Many that believe in Mary call her the queen of heaven. Does the Bible speak of the queen of heaven? Yes it does. Here is what it says:

The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger. Jeremiah 7:18

But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil. But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine. And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?

Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying, The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the Lord remember them, and came it not into his mind? So that the Lord could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day. Jeremiah 44:17-22

Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows. Therefore hear ye the word of the Lord, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the Lord, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord God liveth. Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them. Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs. And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the Lord, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil: Jeremiah 44:25-29

Why would the God of heaven be displeased with the people if the queen of heaven was to be honored? Wouldn’t he be pleased that they were giving her honor? So what is the problem here? Perhaps these texts will reveal the problem:

For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another. Isaiah 48:11

I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Isaiah 42:8

Yet I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me. Hosea 13:4

If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart. Malachi 2:2

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Luke 2:14

He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; Romans 4:20

For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. Romans 11:36

To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen. Romans 16:27

But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves. Amos 5:26

That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 1 Cor. 1:31

Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Philip. 4:20

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Tim. 1:17

To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. Jude 1:25

And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory. Rev. 16:9

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Luke 4:8

Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips. Psalm 16:4

He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the Lord only, he shall be utterly destroyed. Exodus 22:20

For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Exodus 34:14

See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. Deut. 32:39

I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God. Isaiah 43:12

Our Lord does not share his glory with another.

Now how did Mary view her condition? Did she give any indication that she viewed herself as holy? Here is what the Bible says:

And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. Luke 1:46-47

She considered herself in need of a Saviour! Does that surprise you? If you are a person that believes in Mary’s immaculate conception I have some questions. You see I have heard that in order for Christ to be born sinless he had to be born of a sinless mother and therefore Mary was sinless also. Can you explain to me who gave birth to Mary? And were her parents sinless also? And if they were, who were their parents? Were Christ’s grandparents sinless?

Now, when the wise men came to visit who did they worship? Who did they view as the important one?

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. Matthew 2:11

When Simeon found the infant Jesus in the temple with Mary and Joseph did he view Mary as having any virtue in our salvation? He said:

Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. Luke 2:28-33

Now if Mary was a co-redeemer why didn’t he recognize that fact? And what was the witness of Anna the prophetess?

And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. Luke 2:36-38

Mary was right there holding the baby. Why didn’t anyone mention her as having any special merit? Why did these people ignore her high position?

Later in the life of Christ a woman did mention the merits of his mother and what was his response to her?

And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. Luke 11:27-28

You may say, but who is this that has done such wonderful things in the world? Who is this woman in blue that appears to people?

And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 2 Cor. 11:14

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephes. 6:12

But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:8

And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. Luke 21:8

For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Rev. 16:14

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Matthew 24:24

For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. Mark 13:22

And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. Luke 21:11

And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Luke 21:25

For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2 Thes. 2:7-12

So where is Mary now? Please read our article, Where Are The Dead? for more on that subject. You may find it very surprising. So what can we do to avoid being deceived? The Bible says:

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. James 4:7-8

I pray that you dear reader will seriously consider this subject and pray that the Lord will reveal the truth to you on this subject.
